If you are like the team at Charleston on the Cheap, your order a new mattress after hours of laying on what feels like hundreds of them in mattress stores around Charleston only to be told by the guys that deliver it that they cannot take the old one away.
You can put it in the spare bedroom or try and sell it online when all you really want to do is get rid of it.
Well, now thanks to a City of Charleston pilot program funded by SCDHEC you can get rid of your old mattress for FREE and do the environment a favor by keeping it out of the land fill by having it recycled.
On the first and third Monday of each month, between the hours of 2:00PM and 5:00PM, you can drop off your old mattress and box spring at 2150 Milford Street.
There Is a limit of 4 pieces per vehicle and they may ask you to prove you are a City of Charleston resident to take advantage of the awesome program.
You can also arrange to have your old mattress picked up sparing you the trip (fees will apply for this aspect of the program).

Mattresses are bulky and difficult to dispose of since they do not compact well and take up a ton of valuable space in landfills. You can help save valuable landfill space and give your mattress parts a new life by recycling your old mattresses and box springs.
The wood, springs and foam are all repurposed and avoid further harming the environment.
So, instead of paying someone to haul your old mattress to the dump, take advantage of this great program from the City of Charleston.
Sorry all you waterbed fans, but they can’t take those.
